Could your small business change the world?

Do you see your business as something that makes a big difference to the world?

I’ve noticed that a lot of small businesses or freelancers see their work simply as something that provides a useful service and something that earns them money. And that’s ok of course.

But how would it be if you approached your business as something that also helps to change the world in a positive way? Maybe you even had that very thought when you started out but then forgot about it when things got busy or tough.

Aside from the significant benefits clients get from my coaching services, my business makes a difference in other ways too: I offer a number of valuable free resources and I give a percentage of my profits to charity.

And that’s just the start: I’ve got plans to develop a network of change-makers who work together to make a wider difference in the world. I’ve voluntarily founded, led and built up several long-lasting community-led events in South London (with the help of some amazing teams of course) so I know I can build effective teams of volunteers and now I want to make a similar impact in a wider area, this time round through business.

To be honest, I don’t know yet exactly what that network will look like or what it will do but past experience has taught me to just keep putting one foot in front of the other and to keep experimenting until something amazing builds up. I’ll definitely be sharing more detail with you so watch this space.

How does your small business make a wider difference?

So as I’m thinking about this issue for myself, I wanted to invite you to think ahead or think bigger too, if you aren’t already.

By looking to see where your small business can make a difference, you will begin to see the many ways where you already do so as well as where you can go further.

Also simply seeing your business as something that can make a difference to the world will encourage you to think bigger and act bigger which will attract a lot of new good stuff to you.

4 Ways To Make A Difference With Your Business

There are so many ways in which your business could make a wider difference, for example:

  1. What message do you have to share? Even short or casual encounters can influence and change minds
  2. Your business could become a model of best practice – what kind of role model are you for others?
  3. You could use some of your profit to make a difference to others
  4. You could organize an event where you share some of your skills or interests to people who need it most

I’d love to hear from you. What ideas do you have for making a difference?
